From etyl enm < etyl ang sc=unicode, |tō dæge, made from |tō + |dæge, the dative of dæg.- The first component (to-) is from Middle English < Old English tō (towards, for the purpose of) < West Germanic *|to < .
- The second component (-day) is from Middle English < Old English dæg < < . It is not related to Latin dies (which is from PIE base *|dyeu-), but rather to Sanskrit sc=Deva, which came from PIE *|dʰegʰ-.
- Thus, today and day are not related to Spanish día, but to favor and fever.
