Etymology
From docere "to teach, to cause to accept," from the root *dek- "(cause to) accept", other derivatives of which, and that preserve the IE. root and meaning, include dogma (via ) and discipline (via ). Other English language words descended from L. docere include document, doctrine and docent.Noun
